Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
If you see colored spots or lines on the screen and the screenshot doesn't show them, it's worth checking the monitor, cable and video output. However, a screenshot alone cannot definitively identify the faulty part.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Photo and screenshot comparison
Check the copy on the next screen.
Steps to follow
- When the defect is visible, take a picture of the screen with your phone and take a screenshot of the system.
- Open the backup file on another device. Viewing on the same broken monitor would make the comparison misleading.
- If there is no defect in the copy, write it down and open the menu of the monitor itself.
- If the lines also go through the menu, check the monitor's self-diagnosis according to the model manual.
Cable, input and monitor testing
Replace one part of the video circuit at a time.
Steps to follow
- After turning off the devices, connect another suitable cable without a dock or adapter.
- Check your other monitor input and supported native resolution.
- If possible, compare the same monitor to another computer and that computer to another monitor.
- Write down which part the defect travels to. If the monitor shows errors on its own, ask for its repair.
If the problem persists
If the defect is visible in the monitor's own menu or self-diagnosis, a problem with the display circuit is likely. If it's tracking PC output to different monitors, check the GPU and connectors. Save the photo and screenshot for comparison.
