Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Blurred text on a 4K screen can be caused by native resolution, scaling, or reduced color detail. OLED's subpixel arrangement can also result in colored letter edges even on a technically functional display.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Native resolution and color signal check
Make sure the monitor gets a full, proper image.
Steps to follow
- In Windows Settings > System > Display, select the problematic monitor and its recommended native resolution.
- Use a comfortable system scale instead of a lower screen resolution. After the change, re-open the app.
- Check the RGB or full chroma detail mode in the GPU management program if supported. 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 can degrade fine color text.
- If the full format is not available, compare the lower supported Hz and another suitable cable: the desired mode may exceed the bandwidth of the connection.
Text smoothing and panel properties
Compare the text of the system and the program itself.
Steps to follow
- Type "ClearType" in Windows search and run the text adjustment wizard, choosing the best legible examples.
- Check the same text in your browser and system settings. A blur in just one app can be a scaling problem.
- Turn off unnatural sharpening or super resolution if enabled in the monitor menu and compare.
- For OLED, check the manufacturer's information about the subpixel structure. If the colored edges remain only on such a screen, it is not necessarily a cable fault.
If the problem persists
If the correct signal and text settings do not solve the problem, compare with another screen. The text appearance of some panels cannot be completely changed programmatically; a work monitor should be judged by real text, not just resolution.
