Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Check your account login via browser, MFA, updates, and whether modern authentication methods are used; do not change server settings randomly.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Official login test
Log in to that account in a browser and verify MFA.
Steps to follow
- Open the usual official login page of your mail in the browser.
- Sign in with your account and complete its MFA verification.
- If it fails here too, start with official account recovery; if it works, check Outlook, don't disable MFA.
Outlook authentication check
If working in the browser, check Outlook version and account method; do not disable MFA.
Steps to follow
- Check for an Outlook update through the official app or store update.
- In the account settings, compare the connection type with the current instructions of the mail provider; the new and classic Outlook menus are different.
- Use the official login again when the app asks and check. For a work account, check the method with the administrator.
Profile editing only after saving
If you need to rebuild your profile, save your local out-of-sync mails first.
Steps to follow
- First, check which emails are webmail and which are stored only on this computer.
- Export local out-of-sync mails according to the official instructions for your version of Outlook and check the copy.
- Only then follow the instructions for that version to correct or create an account profile. If you do not know the status of the copy, do not delete the profile - contact the administrator.
If the problem persists
If the browser login is working, refresh Outlook and review account-specific authentication. Consider deleting your profile only after saving local mail; Do not turn off two-factor security as a fix.
