Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Try a different device, restarting the computer, and a different outlet. If Windows Device Manager shows an error, update the manufacturer's chipset/USB drivers.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Device vs Socket Comparison
Try another secure device and another USB port.
Steps to follow
- Inspect the external socket: if it wobbles, heats up or the contacts are bent, do not attempt the test.
- Connect another known working mouse or media to a healthy slot.
- Compare the same device in another slot. Make a note of whether the socket or the device itself is not working.
Manufacturer USB driver
If Device Manager shows an error, use the chipset and USB drivers for your model.
Steps to follow
- Note down the exact computer model from the sticker or Settings > System > About.
- Open the official support page of the computer manufacturer, enter the model and select the version of Windows installed.
- Download the following package: Graphics, Sound, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB/Chip or Special Keys. Don't use generic "all drivers" sites.
- Run the downloaded installation file, run the manufacturer's wizard and reboot if prompted.
- Try the function that didn't work again. If there is no network, download the package on another device and transfer to USB.
Repair of damaged connection
If the socket wobbles, heats up or the contacts are bent, stop using it and ask for physical repair.
Steps to follow
- Save important files if your computer or drive is stable. If it makes unusual noises, smells like burning or the battery is swollen, stop testing.
- Write down the exact pattern of when the problem started and what action it took to reoccur. Take a picture of the visible error or deformation without opening the case.
- Submit a repair request with this information.
If the problem persists
If the socket wobbles, heats up or you see bent contacts, stop using it. If all ports do not work, make sure you have a working keyboard or mouse and the correct drivers for your model before uninstalling the drivers.
