"Not enough USB controller resources" when connecting a camera or sound card

Troubleshooting guide

How to fix the problem

"Not enough USB controller resources" may indicate a USB controller resource or bandwidth limit. Many cameras, audio devices and hubs can access it even when the power is sufficient. A powered hub alone does not remove the resource limit.

Possible solutions

Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.

  1. Distribution of devices

Reduce the number of accessories connected at the same time.

    Steps to follow

    1. Unplug extra cameras, USB sound cards, drives, and unnecessary hubs, leaving the keyboard and mouse behind.
    2. Connect the problematic device directly to the computer and test the operation alone.
    3. Connect the other accessories one by one, writing down, after which the error appears.
    4. According to the USB scheme of the computer or board, arrange high-load devices through different controllers; different physical slots are not always different controllers.
  2. Reducing bandwidth requirements

Check whether the selected operating mode reaches the limit.

    Steps to follow

    1. In the camera app, reduce the resolution and frame rate, for example from 4K to 1080p.
    2. For the audio device, select the normal frequency supported by the manufacturer instead of the optional maximum.
    3. Do not transfer large files at once through the same hub and try again.
    4. If the error disappears after reducing the load, plan the correct connection distribution. Do not disable security features or all USB drivers in sequence.

If the problem persists

If the accessory alone does not work in any of the correct sockets, check its cable and driver. A system of multiple professional cameras or audio devices may require an additional independent USB controller; choose it according to your actual needs.
