Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
A USB hub may not provide sufficient power or bandwidth for all accessories. If the accessory works directly, this helps narrow down the problem to the hub, its power supply, and its connecting cable.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Test with one attachment
Test performance without other users.
Steps to follow
- Safely disconnect the drives and remove all other accessories from the hub.
- Leave one problematic accessory and connect the hub directly to the computer without connecting the chain of hubs.
- Compare the same add-on directly on the same computer.
- If directly working, return the other accessories one at a time and note when the problem starts.
Power and standard check
Match your hub to your accessory needs.
Steps to follow
- Check the USB standard, total power budget and separate adapter requirement in the fork specification.
- Use the power adapter provided by the manufacturer and the appropriate data cable to the computer.
- Move the camera or hard drive to a direct slot if the hub's bandwidth is shared with other high-load accessories.
- Repeat the normal task. If the problem persists, choose another tested hub based on your actual power and speed requirements.
If the problem persists
If the hub hangs with even one suitable low-load accessory, check its cable and the hub itself. For the external drive, save the data first; repeated disconnection can damage files.
