Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Check out NumLock and Accessibility Mouse Keys, which can use a numeric pad for the cursor. Try the same keyboard in a different program and try a different keyboard on your computer. If the same physical buttons do not work continuously, there is a possible failure of the keyboard matrix or connector; a software reset alone won't fix it.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
NumLock and Mouse keys
Check out NumLock and the accessibility feature that controls the mouse with a numeric pad.
Steps to follow
- Press the Windows logo key and I together on your keyboard to open Settings.
- Select Accessibility.
- Select "Mouse".
- If "Mouse Keys" is enabled and you are not using it, turn it off.
- On a physical keyboard, press NumLock according to its model.
- Check the numeric pad in the notebook. NumLock can work together with Fn on a laptop.
Physical keyboard comparison
Try another keyboard; if the same physical buttons do not work consistently, a matrix or connector check is required.
Steps to follow
- If the problem is after pouring, turn off the device and do not continue the tests.
- Connect a wired external keyboard directly to a suitable USB or through a compatible adapter, without an additional hub.
- Open a text editor or in the login field, safely check that the keys are entered; do not display your password publicly.
- If the external one works and the same internal buttons don't, this helps determine the problem with the keyboard. Detection of Recovery devices may vary; do not disassemble the housing.
If the problem persists
Also check the function of the Mouse keys: it can use a numpad to control the cursor. If the same group of physical buttons does not work regardless of settings, a keyboard check is required.
