Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Install the laptop manufacturer's hotkey/utility drivers, check Fn Lock (when supported) and BIOS function key mode.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Fn Lock setting
Check the Fn Lock or function key mode according to the instructions for the specific model.
Steps to follow
- According to the keyboard model, find the NumLock or Fn Lock symbol; check their combination in the manual.
- Press a documented combination, such as Fn with the specified key; not all models use Fn+Esc.
- Open a text editor and test the behavior of letters or special keys. If there is no effect, check the manufacturer's keypack.
Manufacturer's hotkey package
If special volume or brightness functions do not work, install the model-specific hotkey/utility package.
Steps to follow
- Note down the exact computer model from the sticker or Settings > System > About.
- Open the official support page of the computer manufacturer, enter the model and select the version of Windows installed.
- Download the following package: Graphics, Sound, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB/Chip or Special Keys. Don't use generic "all drivers" sites.
- Run the downloaded installation file, run the manufacturer's wizard and reboot if prompted.
- Try the function that didn't work again. If there is no network, download the package on another device and transfer to USB.
If the problem persists
Check if Fn Lock is replaced by Fn+Esc or another pattern combination. If only the volume or brightness keys don't work, look for the manufacturer's hotkey pack, not a random "keyboard driver".
