Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Key contact chatter can turn one short press into two characters. This is different from the normal repeat function while holding a key. First, compare the other program and the computer.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Short press test
Separate the mechanical contact from the repetition setting.
Steps to follow
- Open a plain text editor and slowly short press the suspected key several times without holding it down.
- Compare other keys and another program. Note whether one particular symbol is doubled.
- Connect the keyboard directly, without a hub, and compare on another computer if safe.
- If it only repeats when holding down all keys for a long time, check the system key repeat delay; this is not the same as contact doubling.
Cleaning or replacement provided by the manufacturer
Do not pull the parts without checking the construction.
Steps to follow
- Unplug the keyboard and check the official manual for an acceptable cleaning method.
- Remove surface dirt safely without pouring liquid into the switch.
- If the model supports replaceable switches, follow the instructions to replace the suspect with a compatible one. If soldering is required, contact service.
- After cleaning or replacement, repeat the same short press test. Software filtering can hide the symptom, but does not remove the faulty contact.
If the problem persists
If the double-click follows the same keyboard on different computers, check the switch or electronics. The replaceable switch can be replaced only if the model really supports hot-swap; otherwise, repair is required.
