Troubleshooting guide

How to fix the problem

Check extensions, website notification permissions, default search engine and run an antivirus scan. If redirecting everywhere, check DNS/proxy.

Possible solutions

Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.

  1. Managing browser permissions

Cancel notifications from unfamiliar websites and check extensions.

    Steps to follow

    1. Select Settings > Extensions from the Safari menu, Chrome - menu > Extensions > Manage Extensions.
    2. Disable only the suspicious or recently added extension and compare the behavior.
    3. Safari Settings > Websites > Notifications or Chrome Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications cancel notifications from unfamiliar websites.
    4. Reopen your browser. If the ads remain, check the unwanted program, do not disable all protection.
  2. Unwanted program scan

View recently installed apps and run a security scan.

    Steps to follow

    1. If you have already granted unwanted remote access, disconnect the network and change passwords only from a secure device.
    2. In Windows Installed programs or Mac Applications, make a note of the recently installed suspicious program. Identify its publisher before deleting.
    3. Use an official app uninstaller and your own real security app, not an adware "cleaner". Contact the administrator on the work computer.
    4. Reload and check the browser; if the threat returns, submit the information for further investigation.
  3. Network DNS or proxy check

If it also redirects other devices, check the shared network settings with your administrator.

    Steps to follow

    1. Make a note of whether you are using a VPN, your organization's proxy, or your own DNS.
    2. Windows Network and Internet see VPN and Proxy; Mac - Details of the network in use and the installed VPN application.
    3. Temporarily disconnect your VPN and compare. Do not change your organization's proxy, DNS, or security application options without an administrator.
    4. Provide the administrator with the domain, the error and the fact whether it is working through another network; do not disable all firewalls.

If the problem persists

Compare performance after disabling one extension at a time and revoking notifications from unfamiliar websites. If it also redirects other devices on that network, check the router's DNS with the administrator.
