Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
View browser extensions, default search, start page, and recently installed apps.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Search and start page settings
Return the desired search and start page and view extensions.
Steps to follow
- Chrome Settings > Search engine select the desired search provider; in another browser, look for its Search setting.
- In the Chrome On startup section, remove only unknown page startup.
- Review the Extensions list and disable the associated suspicious extension.
- Reload your browser. If an unknown selection returns, check the program that restores it; do not bypass the organization's policy.
Uninstalling the recovery program
If the unwanted page returns, investigate a recently installed program; coordinate the work policy with the administrator.
Steps to follow
- If you have already granted unwanted remote access, disconnect the network and change passwords only from a secure device.
- In Windows Installed programs or Mac Applications, make a note of the recently installed suspicious program. Identify its publisher before deleting.
- Use an official app uninstaller and your own real security app, not an adware "cleaner". Contact the administrator on the work computer.
- Reload and check the browser; if the threat returns, submit the information for further investigation.
If the problem persists
If the changed page returns, check the extension or program that is restoring it. The setting of working on a computer can be managed by the organization; resetting the browser alone will not remove the active unwanted program.
