Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Try an external keyboard and another user; if the same buttons don't work everywhere, you usually need to repair/replace the internal keyboard.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Layout and account test
Check the same letters in a text editor and with a different layout or account.
Steps to follow
- View the keyboard input language on the login screen or menu bar; select normal.
- Check the Caps Lock, its indicator may show an enabled state.
- Once logged in, open TextEdit and test text without typing your password publicly. If the same physical buttons do not work, use an external keyboard comparison.
External keyboard and repair
If the external one works, but the same internal buttons do not, check the keyboard; turn off the device after pouring.
Steps to follow
- If the problem is after pouring, turn off the device and do not continue the tests.
- Connect a wired external keyboard directly to a suitable USB or through a compatible adapter, without an additional hub.
- Open a text editor or in the login field, safely check that the keys are entered; do not display your password publicly.
- If the external one works and the same internal buttons don't, this helps determine the problem with the keyboard. Detection of Recovery devices may vary; do not disassemble the housing.
If the problem persists
Check the buttons in the text editor and with a different layout. Do not use the device after pouring; if the same letters do not work on another account, a keyboard inspection is required.
