How to force close a stuck app on MacBook?

Troubleshooting guide

How to fix the problem

Option+Command+Esc > highlight a program > Force Quit. Unsaved data may be lost.

Possible solutions

Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.

  1. Force Quit menu

Option+Command+Esc exit the hung application after evaluating the loss of unsaved data.

    Steps to follow

    1. Save the work of other programs as much as possible.
    2. Press Option+Command+Esc, select only the hung program and Force Quit.
    3. Re-open it, see the restoration of the document; unsaved changes may be lost.
  2. Fixing an application problem

If it hangs again, check the update and another document; don't shut down the entire system on the first try.

    Steps to follow

    1. After closing the program, open another test document to determine whether the problem is the file or the program itself.
    2. If the app is from the App Store, check Updates there; otherwise its official update.
    3. Please try again after updating. If only one document crashes, work with a copy of it, rather than deleting the entire program at once.

If the problem persists

If the application crashes again after force closing, please refresh it and check another document. If the whole system crashes, save another job; force shutdown remains the last step.
