Troubleshooting guide

How to fix the problem

Apple menu > About This Mac; additionally, Activity Monitor shows CPU, Memory and Energy loads.

Possible solutions

Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.

  1. Mac information menu

About This Mac view model memory and processor; Option > System Information will give details.

    Steps to follow

    1. From the Apple menu, select About This Mac.
    2. View Model, Chip/Processor and Memory.
    3. For details, hold Option and open the Apple menu > System Information. Do not make the serial number public.
  2. Viewing the current load

Use Activity Monitor for CPU, Memory, and Energy consumption, not just the installed configuration.

    Steps to follow

    1. Command+Space type Activity Monitor and open it.
    2. Select CPU and click the % CPU column, then Memory or Energy as asked.
    3. Take a few minutes to compare the performance of popular programs. After saving your work, close the unnecessary burdening program and appreciate the difference; do not kill system processes blindly.

If the problem persists

For more detailed information, hold Option and open the Apple menu > System Information. Apple silicon unified memory is also used for graphics; not all models can add it.
