How do I open Activity Monitor, the Mac equivalent of Task Manager?

Topic #259 · Updated · Pataisoma.lt

Troubleshooting guide

How to fix the problem

Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor; it shows CPU, RAM, disk and network load.

Possible solutions

Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.

  1. Applications folder

Applications > Utilities open Activity Monitor.

    Steps to follow

    1. In the Finder sidebar, select Applications.
    2. Open the Utilities folder.
    3. Run Activity Monitor and select CPU or Memory; this is a performance review, not an automatic fix.
  2. Spotlight search

If you can't find it in the folder, type Activity Monitor in Spotlight and select the appropriate load section.

    Steps to follow

    1. Press Command and Space.
    2. Type Activity Monitor and press Enter at the found program.
    3. Select the desired load section and observe; don't terminate an unknown process by its name alone.

If the problem persists

Type Activity Monitor through Spotlight if you can't find it in the Applications folder. Choose the right section and don't stop the process without knowing what program or system function it serves.
