Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Ctrl+Shift+Esc > Processes; sort by CPU. If the process is unknown, check its publisher before stopping.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Process load list
Ctrl+Shift+Esc > Sort processes by CPU and watch for a few minutes.
Steps to follow
- Press Ctrl, Shift and Esc together to open the Task Manager.
- If you only see a short list of apps, click More info if available.
- Select Processes and click on the CPU column name so that the ones using the most are at the top.
- Compare both the Memory and Disk columns. Watch for a few minutes, not just a short jump.
- After saving the documents, close the known loading program normally and compare. Do not stop system processes by an unfamiliar name.
Program update
If a known program is constantly causing the load, save your work, refresh, or restart it.
Steps to follow
- Save the documents for that application and close it normally.
- Look for "Help" > "Check for updates" in the app's menu or its official store update.
- Install the suggested official update, run the app and compare CPU load in Task Manager.
If the problem persists
Monitor the load for a few minutes as a short spike is normal. If the same process is constantly loading the CPU, update its program; don't stop system processes just because of an unfamiliar name.
