Intel I225-V / I226-V periodically loses Ethernet connection

Troubleshooting guide

How to fix the problem

Intel I225-V or I226-V connection loss can be caused by cable, router socket, driver or power saving interaction. The controller name alone does not confirm the failure: write down the exact model and replay conditions.

Possible solutions

Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.

  1. Cable and network socket test

Disconnect the external connection from the PC controller.

    Steps to follow

    1. Right-click Start > Device Manager > Network Adapters and write down the exact Intel controller.
    2. Replace the Ethernet cable with one that is known to work and connect it to another suitable port on the router or switch.
    3. Check the connection to the same local device or the same task; A website error alone is not a physical disconnection.
    4. Note whether the network connection itself and the socket indicator disappear when the connection is interrupted, or whether the connection remains without the Internet.
  2. Comparison of driver and power saving

Change only one option at a time.

    Steps to follow

    1. Install a network driver specific to that model from your computer or motherboard manufacturer.
    2. In the Adapter Properties, note the current Energy Efficient Ethernet and Power Saving options, if present.
    3. Temporarily substitute one of the manufacturer's documented savings options and repeat the same test.
    4. If there is no difference, return the previous value. If the other adapter is stable, continue with the onboard controller diagnostics.

If the problem persists

If it also breaks with another cable and network outlet, compare with another network adapter. Provide the computer manufacturer with the controller and driver versions and outage times. Do not use firmware from another motherboard.
