Troubleshooting guide

Windows won't load - safe first steps

If the computer turns on, but Windows does not start, do not rush to overwrite the system. First, capture the error, disconnect the external media and consider whether there is important unsaved data on the disk. A boot issue can be caused by a software bug, encryption, or the SSD/HDD itself.

The most common symptoms

  • The Windows logo appears endlessly.
  • The system keeps going back to Automatic Repair.
  • "No bootable device", "Boot device not found" or similar text is displayed.
  • A blue error screen appears.
  • A black screen with a cursor is visible.
  • BitLocker recovery key is requested.
  • Windows won't start after an update or unexpected shutdown.

Possible reasons

A failed Windows update, driver, corrupted system or startup files can disrupt startup. Other causes are almost full, undetectable or corrupt SSD/HDD, file system error, changed BIOS boot settings or BitLocker protection after a hardware or software change.

What can be safely checked?

  1. Take a picture of the entire error text and code.
  2. Disconnect USB media, external drives and unnecessary accessories.
  3. If the screen is updating and you can see the progress, ensure stable power and wait. Do not force shutdown.
  4. If Windows opens the recovery environment itself, you can choose Startup Repair once.
  5. If you're asked for a BitLocker key, look for it in your Microsoft, work, or school account. Do not enter the key to unofficial sites.
  6. If the data is important, do not select Reset, format or reinstall Windows until the possibility of saving it has been evaluated.

Microsoft specifies that the BitLocker recovery key is 48 digits long and can be stored in a Microsoft or organizational account; system restore without a key may remove files. Official Microsoft instruction.

Important - what not to do: Do not initialize or format the drive, delete partitions, or use random startup "repair" commands from the Internet. Do not change UEFI/Legacy, Secure Boot, RAID or AHCI modes without understanding the consequences. Repeated forced shutdowns may further damage the system or file structure.

When to contact the master?

Contact service if the BIOS does not detect the drive, I/O errors are displayed, HDD clicks are heard, or auto repair keeps returning to the beginning. If you don't have a backup of your important files, you should first check the disk health before overwriting Windows.

Frequently asked questions

Will overwriting Windows delete my files?

It depends on the method you choose, but formatting, repartitioning, and some recovery options remove files. Data condition must be assessed before action.

What does "No bootable device" mean?

The computer cannot find a proper bootable system. The reason may be an undetectable disk, startup files, or changed BIOS settings. This message does not mean that the drive needs to be formatted.

Is it possible to bypass a lost BitLocker key?

BitLocker is designed so that data cannot be accessed without the correct key. The key must be found in the Microsoft or organizational account associated with the device.
