Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
In Windows 11, check Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone, Windows 10 - Privacy > Microphone. Enable device and required app access, as well as desktop apps shared permission if provided. Select the desired microphone in the program itself; the browser will also need site-specific permission.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Windows access permissions
In the microphone privacy section, check device, app, and desktop app access.
Steps to follow
- Press the Windows logo key and I together on your keyboard to open Settings.
- Select "Privacy & Security".
- Select "Microphone".
- Turn on microphone access and the permission of the required application.
- Check the separate general "Allow desktop apps" switch if it appears.
- Re-open the app and test the microphone; In Windows 10, go to Privacy > Microphone.
App or website permissions
If the microphone does not work in only one place, check its input and the permission of the browser site.
Steps to follow
- In the program, open its Settings and Audio section.
- In the Microphone/Input list, select the exact microphone you want, unmute it, and run its test.
- If you are using a browser, click the website permissions icon next to the website address and allow the microphone only for that website.
- Open the call again and check the level indicator; if Windows doesn't hear it, use the system test first.
If the problem persists
Also check the microphone selection in the app itself and the browser's website permission. Desktop app access may have a shared toggle separate from Microsoft Store apps.
