Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
The caller app or Windows can automatically mute other sounds when it detects a conversation. This may be an intended feature rather than a fault with the sound card. Change system and app-specific settings separately.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Windows connection sounds option
Suitable for automatic muting of other sounds during a call.
Steps to follow
- Press Windows + R, type mmsys.cpl and press Enter.
- Open the "Communications" tab if it is present in your system.
- Select "Do nothing", apply and close the window.
- Repeat the test call with the music playing softly. If it did not help, check the suppression of the program itself.
Program mute and volume mixer
Names vary by application and version.
Steps to follow
- In Discord's voice settings, look for Attenuation; in another app, the option to automatically mute other apps, if available.
- Temporarily disable only the damping and try again. Do not change the microphone noise reduction without reason.
- Windows Settings > System > Sound > Volume Mixer check the levels of individual programs and their output.
- After you finish the call, check if the volume returns. If the problem is only in one application, adjust its settings separately.
If the problem persists
If it's not the volume, but the quality, check the Bluetooth talk profile. If the sound remains muted after closing the call, check the volume mixer and selected output device.
