Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Settings > System > Sound > Input and Privacy & Security > Microphone; check the app-specific permissions.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Systematic microphone test
Windows Sound > Input select the microphone and check the level reading.
Steps to follow
- Press the Windows logo key and I together on your keyboard to open Settings.
- Select "System".
- Select "Sound".
- In the Input section, select the desired microphone and open its options.
- Talk to him and watch the level indicator; use the suggested microphone test if available.
- If the reading does not move, check the physical mute, connection and privacy permission. If it moves, go to the app settings.
Program selection and permissions
If the Windows test works, check input, mute, and permissions in Zoom or Discord.
Steps to follow
- In the program, open its Settings and Audio section.
- In the Microphone/Input list, select the exact microphone you want, unmute it, and run its test.
- If you are using a browser, click the website permissions icon next to the website address and allow the microphone only for that website.
- Open the call again and check the level indicator; if Windows doesn't hear it, use the system test first.
If the problem persists
Run the Windows microphone test and compare it to the program's audio test. If Windows is receiving audio, check Zoom or Discord input, mute, and browser permissions.
