How to fix the problem
DisplayLink transmits the display using USB data and software. Higher latency or CPU load can be a limitation of this method, but it is also increased by the wrong cable, poor USB connection and outdated software.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Application and connection check
First, confirm what technology the dock uses.
Steps to follow
- Look for a mention of DisplayLink in the dock specification. If it's not there, don't download the DisplayLink drivers just for the USB-C connection.
- Install the official version of DisplayLink app recommended for your system and dock.
- Connect the dock directly with a suitable USB cable, without an additional hub.
- For macOS, grant only the necessary screen permissions requested by the official app and reboot as instructed.
Comparison of resolution and direct connection
Check how much image loading changes the problem.
Steps to follow
- Leave one external display and temporarily select a lower supported resolution in its settings.
- Repeat the same task: scrolling windows, viewing a video, or other problematic action.
- If your computer allows it, compare that display by connecting directly via HDMI or a display-capable USB-C / Thunderbolt socket.
- If direct latency is low, use that connection for activities that matter. Leave DisplayLink for tasks where its limitations are acceptable.
If the problem persists
If you need low latency for gaming or precision video work, check out the direct GPU output option. If the delay occurred suddenly, please provide the versions of the dock, DisplayLink app and system; not every dock uses DisplayLink.
