Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Wait for the program to recover; Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the Task Manager and end only the hung program after evaluating the loss of unsaved work. If Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't respond either, force shutdown remains the last resort. Repeatedly check if the problem is related to a single program, update, disk, RAM or temperature.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Closing a stuck application
If Windows is still responsive, end only the hung program in Task Manager after evaluating the unsaved work.
Steps to follow
- Press Ctrl, Shift and Esc together to open the Task Manager.
- If you only see a short list of apps, click More info if available.
- Find the hanged program by name in the process list.
- Try saving the document; if not possible, consider the loss of unsaved changes.
- Mark only it and press "Finish task". Reopen and check the document recovery offer.
Undoing the last change
If the crashes started after a single program or driver update, check and undo the related change.
Steps to follow
- Remember what you installed or updated before the first failure. Write down the name of the app or device.
- If it's an app, go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps and find just that app. Save her documents first.
- Use its official update or "Remove". If it's a driver, in Device Manager, select its Properties > Driver > Roll back driver if allowed.
- Reboot and check if the same error occurs again. If you don't know the change, don't uninstall random programs or drivers.
Hardware diagnostics
If the whole system crashes in various programs, check the temperature, RAM and disk; do not load an unstable disk before the copy.
Steps to follow
- Save important files if your computer or drive is stable. If it makes unusual noises, smells like burning or the battery is swollen, stop testing.
- Write down the exact pattern of when the problem started and what action it took to reoccur. Take a picture of the visible error or deformation without opening the case.
- Submit a repair request with this information.
If the problem persists
If Ctrl+Alt+Del also does not work, use forced shutdown only as a last resort - unsaved work will be lost. Make a note of whether the crashes are repeated in a single application, after an update, or under load.
