Troubleshooting guide

How to fix the problem

"The User Profile Service failed the sign-in" means that Windows did not load the user profile. This could be a profile, disk space, or file health issue. The first step is to save the data instead of deleting the registry profile entries.

Possible solutions

Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.

  1. Other legitimate accounts and disk check

Check if the problem is only in one profile.

    Steps to follow

    1. After saving other jobs, reboot normally once and try to login again.
    2. If it fails, log in with another available administrator account. Changing your account password alone does not fix a corrupted profile.
    3. Check the free space on the C: drive and whether the previous user's folder C:\Users. is available
    4. Copy important files to another physical medium. If you see reading errors, stop further correction until the data is evaluated.
  2. System check and new profile

Isolate the system files issue from a single account.

    Steps to follow

    1. Run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth under a running admin account, sfc /scannow after success.
    2. Reload and verify your old account. If it still doesn't load, prepare a new one via Settings > Accounts > Other users.
    3. Copy your personal files to the new profile and selectively restore apps and their settings.
    4. Do not delete the NTUSER.DAT and ProfileList registry entries according to a foreign example. If repair of the profile registry is necessary, entrust a specialist with a copy.

If the problem persists

If neither account connects or the drive shows read errors, the first thing you need to do is drive and system diagnostics. For encrypted data, find the recovery key in advance. Manage work accounts with an administrator.
