Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
If the SSD disappears or there are errors during copying, save the most important data first or evaluate the recovery. If the drive is stable, check free space, temperature, and manufacturer health diagnostics. SMART does not rule out all failures without warnings. Consider updating the firmware only after a copy and according to a specific model; do not load an unstable disk with long tests.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Data retention
If your SSD disappears or reading stops, backup your most important files first or evaluate a professional recovery.
Steps to follow
- Connect another media that has enough free space and is not the only copy of important files.
- Open your documents and photos folders. Highlight the most important files and choose Copy instead of Cut.
- In the other media, create a new folder and select Paste. Wait for the copying to finish.
- Open multiple copied documents and photos. If the reading stops or the disk disappears, do not try again - contact the master to save the files.
Checking the status of a stable SSD
If stable, check the free space, temperature and manufacturer's diagnostics.
Steps to follow
- If the drive disappears, cracks or files are wrong when copying, don't do a long test - first a copy or a professional recovery evaluation.
- In a stable Windows Start, right-click > Device Manager > Disk Devices, and write down the exact model of the disk.
- On the official website of its manufacturer, find the health viewer for the model and open only information or health status.
- Write down warnings, do not try erasure, firmware or long tests. Even the good condition of the SMART does not rule out all problems; give the result to the master.
Connection or firmware check
Check the connection after safely disconnecting the power; change the firmware only in a model-appropriate way, having a copy.
Steps to follow
- Before any update, make a copy of the files and check if the device is working stably. Do not update the firmware of the disappearing disk.
- According to the exact model, find the firmware manual on the manufacturer's official website and check if it is for your device.
- If the guide suggests an update for your case, make sure it has a stable power supply and follow that wizard only. If you are not sure, stop and give the model to the master.
- The internal connection can only be checked after completely disconnecting the power according to the model manual; do not open the case without preparation.
If the problem persists
If the drive is sometimes not detected or file copying stops, pause updates and load tests. Save the most important files first; in the case of reading errors, professional recovery diagnostics are worth it.
