How to fix the problem
NVMe USB box may disconnect due to cable, power, temperature or incompatibility. A warm box is not yet proof of failure: it is necessary to observe whether the disconnection is repeatedly associated with longer copying and whether it remains without an intermediate hub.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Comparison of cable and USB socket
Eliminate the simplest causes of external communication.
Steps to follow
- If the files are still available, copy the most important ones to another media first.
- Disconnect the dock or hub and connect the box directly to the computer with a short suitable data cable.
- Compare another supported USB socket and another known suitable cable.
- If the connection is stable, briefly repeat the normal copying. Do not repeat the large tests if the drive disappears again.
Heat transfer check
Do this only after disconnecting and cooling the box.
Steps to follow
- Check the box manual to see if it fits your NVMe model and size.
- If the design allows, inspect the heat pad provided by the manufacturer and whether the protective films have been removed from it.
- Use the pad thickness specified in the instructions; too thick a pad can bend the SSD or prevent the case from closing.
- After assembly, ensure an air gap around the box and repeat the brief comparison. If disconnections remain, check another compatible box.
If the problem persists
If the drive disappears even with the proper cable and cooling, stop using it for a single copy. Provide the SSD and box models and the result of the test in the direct USB socket to the service. Data recovery is more important than speed test.
