Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Try a different PDF reader and file; if only one document is not working, it may be corrupted or not fully downloaded.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Another PDF reader
Compare the same file with another known PDF.
Steps to follow
- Find the file in your folder and right-click > Open with.
- Select a trusted PDF reader installed; Preview available on Mac.
- Compare also another known PDF. If the others work, the problem is more with that document, not all scanners.
A new reliable copy of the file
If one file doesn't work, download it again and check if a password is required.
Steps to follow
- From an official sender or trusted service, re-download the document to your other file without overwriting the original.
- Wait for the download to finish and try to open.
- If it asks for a password, get it from a known contact of the document owner. Don't upload the file to an obscure online "repair" service.
If the problem persists
Download the document from a trusted source again and verify that it is password protected. If other PDFs open, fix the problem with the specific file, not the entire computer.
