Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Use the official Apple Account/Recovery password recovery procedure. If FileVault is enabled and you don't have a recovery method, you may not be able to recover your data.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Input verification
Check your keyboard language and Caps Lock before attempting recovery.
Steps to follow
- View the keyboard input language on the login screen or menu bar; select normal.
- Check the Caps Lock, its indicator may show an enabled state.
- Once logged in, open TextEdit and test text without typing your password publicly. If the same physical buttons do not work, use an external keyboard comparison.
Official password recovery
Use the suggested Apple Account or Recovery procedure; A valid recovery method is required to unlock FileVault.
Steps to follow
- In the login window, look for the forgotten password recovery option; follow the official guide only.
- If prompted, confirm with your Apple Account or FileVault recovery. If not, open Recovery and Apple's official password recovery guide according to your Mac type.
- Enter the new password only in the step provided by the wizard, without showing the key or verification codes.
- If you don't have a recovery method, don't enable disk erase. Not knowing the old password can limit the data of the old key.
If the problem persists
Check your keyboard language and Caps Lock, then choose Official Account Recovery. Lack of FileVault or Apple Account keys may limit access; do not promise data recovery without the necessary keys.
