MacBook does not charge via USB-C

Troubleshooting guide

How to fix the problem

Check the power outlet, a USB-C Power Delivery charger with the right power, and an undamaged charging cable. If your Mac supports it, try another USB-C port. Too little power may not be able to charge under load; charging pause at a set limit may be a battery optimization feature. Not all data cables are suitable for the required charging.

Possible solutions

Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.

  1. Another charging cable

Compare the intact cable supporting the required power; a data cable alone may not work.

    Steps to follow

    1. Check your computer model for the required charger power and cable charging support in its official description.
    2. Connect a suitable other undamaged USB-C PD adapter and cable to a working outlet.
    3. Compare with another USB-C port if your model allows it. Keep an eye on the status of the battery menu, not just the charging symbol.
    4. Do not use a hot, wobbly or damaged socket. If it does not load with the right kit, give the models to the master.
  2. Suitable PD adapter and socket

Try a compatible charger with the required power and another supported USB-C port.

  3. Battery charge limit

If it stops at a constant limit, check the optimization; Do not use a damaged or hot socket.

    Steps to follow

    1. Click on the Apple icon in the top left and select System Settings.
    2. Select Battery.
    3. Check if the menu indicates a charging pause or if your model's charging limit has been reached.
    4. View Battery Health/Charging optimization by version; not all have the same options.
    5. If the charging stops just at the conscious limit, it is not necessarily a malfunction. If it does not charge and the capacity is low, check the cable, adapter and outlet.

If the problem persists

Try another USB-C PD adapter of the required power and a suitable charging cable. If the system shows a suspended charge at the set limit, check the battery optimization; do not use a hot or damaged socket.
