Troubleshooting guide

How to fix the problem

If the computer shuts down when the power plug is moved, there may be a broken cable, a damaged socket, or a dead battery that is not receiving power. Holding the plug at an angle is not a repair and may increase heating.

Possible solutions

Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.

  1. External inspection without folding

    Check for signs of damage.

    Steps to follow

    1. Turn off the computer and disconnect the charger from the power supply and the computer.
    2. Inspect the cable at the plug and power supply unit, the edges of the socket and the deformation of the plug.
    3. If there is darkening, melting or damaged insulation, do not use the charger.
    4. Make a note of whether the computer could run on battery power before. A dead battery could explain the sudden shutdown after losing contact.
  2. Comparison of suitable alternative charger

Only suitable if there are no signs of overheating and socket damage.

    Steps to follow

    1. Choose a charger suitable for the model with the required voltage, power and connection standard; For USB-C, check for PD support.
    2. Connect without moving the plug and check the stable charging with the computer indicator or system status.
    3. If the other charger is stable, replace the first cable or block with a suitable one. Do not wrap the damaged wire as a permanent solution.
    4. If it is unstable with another one, check the computer socket, its fastening and the battery at the service center.

If the problem persists

If the plug wobbles, heats, sparks or smells, do not try any further and have the outlet and power circuit checked. Even if another charger helps, don't use the damaged old cable anymore.
