Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Check Battery Health and Cycles; this is a signal to assess the battery condition. Do not use if the battery is swollen or deformed.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Battery health assessment
Compare Battery Health, uptime and shutdowns, not just cycles.
Steps to follow
- Click on the Apple icon in the top left and select System Settings.
- Select Battery.
- Open the Battery Health or info button if your model has one.
- Record the status and compare with actual uptime and shutdowns.
- If the case is deformed or the battery is swollen, do not charge or perform additional tests.
Battery service
If the condition is poor, schedule a replacement; if swelling or deformation occurs, do not load or use.
Steps to follow
- Save important files if your computer or drive is stable. If it makes unusual noises, smells like burning or the battery is swollen, stop testing.
- Write down the exact pattern of when the problem started and what action it took to reoccur. Take a picture of the visible error or deformation without opening the case.
- Submit a repair request with this information.
If the problem persists
If there is no deformation, save the data and schedule a battery health check. The number of cycles alone does not determine the change; capacity, shutdowns and physical condition are also important.
