Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
System Settings > Battery view Battery Health if available. For more detailed cycle and status information, hold Option > Apple menu > System Information > Power. Also evaluate real-time uptime and unexpected shutdowns; cycles alone do not tell the whole condition. Do not charge a battery that is swollen or deformed.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Battery Health
System Settings > Battery check status if displayed on your model.
Steps to follow
- Click on the Apple icon in the top left and select System Settings.
- Select Battery.
- Open the Battery Health or info button if your model has one.
- Record the status and compare with actual uptime and shutdowns.
- If the case is deformed or the battery is swollen, do not charge or perform additional tests.
System Information
Option > Apple menu > System Information > Power view cycles and status along with real-time uptime.
Steps to follow
- Hold Option and open the Apple menu > System Information.
- On the left, select Power.
- Record battery cycles and status; evaluate not only the number, but also the capacity and running time.
If the problem persists
Compare battery status, run time and cycles, not just a single number. If the case is deformed or the battery is swollen, stop charging and contact the service.
