Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Connect a powered-on monitor via HDMI, DisplayPort, or a display-capable USB-C connection. Select the correct input on the monitor, press Win+P in Windows and select Expand. Settings > System > Display use Detect and Identify. The USB-C socket and the adapter must support the corresponding video mode, not just data or charging.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Windows output switching
After connecting the display, press Win+P and select Extend.
Steps to follow
- With the display turned on, press the Windows key and P together.
- From the menu on the right, select "Expand" for two workspaces or "Duplicate" for the same image.
- In Settings > System > Display, tap Identify, then arrange the display schemes according to their physical location.
- Click Apply and move the window to the second screen. If not visible, check its Input and cable.
Monitor and cable check
If the display is not detected, select the correct input for the display and try another compatible cable.
Steps to follow
- Note which cable is connected to the display and if there is an adapter or dock between it and the computer.
- Turn off the devices and, if the sockets allow, connect the display directly to the computer.
- On the monitor, select the input into which you inserted the cable. Check the manufacturer's manual for the resolution and frequency supported by the cable and jack.
- Once enabled, go back to the display settings and check if the missing resolution, Hz or HDR has occurred. If not, compare with another suitable cable.
USB-C support check
If you're using a USB-C adapter, check your computer's specification for video mode support.
Steps to follow
- Write down the exact model of your computer and USB-C adapter.
- Find the description of the USB-C slot you are using in the official computer specification and look for DisplayPort Alt Mode or Thunderbolt video support.
- Also check the video transmission in the description of the adapter and cable; the shape of the USB-C connector alone doesn't confirm it.
- If the port is only for data or charging, the software setting will not help - choose a supported HDMI/DisplayPort or other documented output.
If the problem persists
Select the correct monitor input and try another cable. The shape of the USB-C connector does not guarantee video transmission; check the specifications of your computer and adapter.
