Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display settings. Select your monitor and the highest refresh rate it supports. If 144 Hz is not displayed, check your monitor specification, cable/video connection capabilities, and video driver. Hz cannot be increased beyond the physical capabilities of the screen.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Screen frequency selection
In Windows Display settings, select the monitor and the Hz value it supports.
Steps to follow
- Press the Windows logo key and I together on your keyboard to open Settings.
- Select "System".
- Select "Display".
- Select "Advanced display settings".
- If there are several screens, select the one you need at the top.
- In the "Select refresh rate" list, choose a supported value of 120, 144 Hz or another value.
- Confirm saving the image if asked. If the image disappears, do not click blindly - wait for the automatic return.
Direct connection
If the desired Hz is not available, connect without a hub and check the cable support for the selected resolution.
Steps to follow
- Note which cable is connected to the display and if there is an adapter or dock between it and the computer.
- Turn off the devices and, if the sockets allow, connect the display directly to the computer.
- On the monitor, select the input into which you inserted the cable. Check the manufacturer's manual for the resolution and frequency supported by the cable and jack.
- Once enabled, go back to the display settings and check if the missing resolution, Hz or HDR has occurred. If not, compare with another suitable cable.
Monitor mode and driver
If the connection is correct, check the monitor menu and graphics driver; do not exceed the modes specified by the manufacturer.
Steps to follow
- Use the buttons on the monitor body to open its menu.
- Look for the higher frequency mode in the model manual: some displays require it to be enabled separately. Use only the documented mode.
- If there is no such option, right-click Start > Device Manager > Display Adapters and write down the name of the GPU and download the compatible package from the manufacturer.
- After making the change, check the frequency list again in Windows Advanced Display Settings.
If the problem persists
Connect the monitor directly, without a hub, and try a cable that meets the manufacturer's requirements. Check that the desired frequency is supported by the selected resolution; you may need to enable a dedicated mode in the monitor menu.
