Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Check if it's the internal display, update your graphics and monitor drivers. The brightness of external monitors is usually changed in their menu.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Internal Display Manager
If the brightness of the laptop is not working, check that the correct graphics driver is installed.
Steps to follow
- Note down the exact computer model from the sticker or Settings > System > About.
- Open the official support page of the computer manufacturer, enter the model and select the version of Windows installed.
- Download the following package: Graphics, Sound, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB/Chip or Special Keys. Don't use generic "all drivers" sites.
- Run the downloaded installation file, run the manufacturer's wizard and reboot if prompted.
- Try the function that didn't work again. If there is no network, download the package on another device and transfer to USB.
External monitor controls
For an external display, use its menu; software brightness depends on monitor support.
Steps to follow
- Use the buttons on the monitor body to open its own menu.
- Look for Brightness and change it in small steps.
- Check the result; if the function is locked due to HDR or other mode, follow the specific guide without changing the options blindly.
- A Mac or Windows slider doesn't necessarily control an external display; software control requires monitor support.
If the problem persists
If Windows uses the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, install the appropriate graphics driver. For an external monitor, try its menu; programmatic control depends on DDC/CI support.
