Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Settings > System > Sound > Output; select headphones or speakers as the desired device.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Windows default output
System > Sound, select headphones or speakers instead of the monitor.
Steps to follow
- Press the Windows logo key and I together on your keyboard to open Settings.
- Select "System".
- Select "Sound".
- In the Output section, click the headphones or speakers you want.
- Turn up the volume and play a familiar audio track.
- If the device isn't there, go back to plugging it in or Bluetooth pairing instead of choosing a random output.
The output of a specific program
If the sound still goes through the monitor, change the output in the application itself or in its mixer setting.
Steps to follow
- Open the problematic app's Settings and its Sound/Audio section.
- In the Speaker/Output list, select Headphones instead of Monitor.
- If there is no separate setting, check the output of the program in Windows System > Sound > Volume Mixer if it is displayed.
- Play the sound again; close and reopen the program as needed.
If the problem persists
Also check the output in the program itself: it can be selected separately from Windows. If the headset does not appear, check the connection or Bluetooth pairing.
