Troubleshooting guide

How to fix the problem

Check that the media or SD card adapter has a physical lock. If readable, copy important files first. Try your other computer: writing may also be restricted by organizational policy, and corrupt media may remain read-only. Don't agree to format or run unpartitioning commands when files are needed.

Possible solutions

Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.

  1. Physical lock check

If the media or SD adapter has a lock, check its position.

    Steps to follow

    1. Safely disconnect the media after writing.
    2. Look to see if there is a physical Lock slider on its case or SD adapter.
    3. According to the media tag, determine the unlocked position and compare on your computer; a copy of the important files on it first.
  2. Comparison of another computer and policy

If there is no lock, compare on your other device; writing on the work computer can be restricted by the administrator.

    Steps to follow

    1. If readable, copy important files to another media first.
    2. Compare the same media on your other computer.
    3. If only the work device does not allow writing, ask your administrator to check the policy. If it's read-only everywhere, examine the media, don't bypass the ban by deleting partitions.
  3. Data copy and media replacement

If the media is consistently read-only or corrupt, copy the files and evaluate the change without formatting the single copy.

    Steps to follow

    1. In the file browser, highlight the required media files and select Copy.
    2. Create a folder on another drive and Paste, wait for the end.
    3. Open the copies. If the media remains read-only or corrupt, consider replacing it; do not format the single copy.

If the problem persists

If the media is readable, copy important files to another location. If it doesn't have a physical lock and stays read-only all the time, investigate the fault or your organization's policy; formatting will not necessarily solve the problem.
