TPM 2.0 not found

Troubleshooting guide

How to fix the problem

Win+R > tpm.msc check TPM status and spec version. For BIOS, this function may be called Intel PTT or AMD fTPM; check its availability with the manufacturer's documentation. Save the BitLocker recovery key before changing the setting. Clearing the TPM does not add a new version of the TPM and may remove access to the keys.

Possible solutions

Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.

  1. TPM status check

tpm.msc view status and version, compare to manufacturer's specification.

    Steps to follow

    1. Press Windows and R, type tpm.msc and Enter.
    2. View Status and "Specification Version" in the window.
    3. Note if there is 2.0, another version, or device not found. Don't press clear TPM - it doesn't add the missing support.
  2. Enabling supported PTT or fTPM

If the model supports, please check the BIOS option with BitLocker key according to its manual; Do not clear the TPM.

    Steps to follow

    1. Save your files and BitLocker recovery key before replacing BIOS.
    2. Find the exact CSM, Secure Boot or PTT/fTPM section you need in the model manual; the option names are not the same on all computers.
    3. Open BIOS as in the manual, take a picture of the current setting. Change only the option provided in the manual; CSM returns need to know the previous value.
    4. Use the save command shown by BIOS and test the startup. If the menu doesn't match or you don't know the previous setting, don't guess it; Do not delete TPM and Secure Boot keys.

If the problem persists

If tpm.msc shows an older or missing TPM version, compare with the model specification. Clearing the TPM is not a way to add TPM 2.0 and may remove access to encryption keys.
