Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
A new processor may physically fit into the slot, but require a newer BIOS or not be supported at all. The name of the board, its revision and the exact model of the processor must match the manufacturer's support list.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Checking the processor support list
Find out which BIOS is required for your particular board.
Steps to follow
- Copy the entire model and revision from the plate inscription or purchase documents; similar names may refer to different panels.
- Go to the CPU Support list on the manufacturer's page and find the exact code for your new CPU.
- Write down the minimum version of BIOS. If your processor is not listed, check with the manufacturer's support before continuing.
- If your computer is running an old CPU, check the current version in the BIOS window and compare it to the required one.
Update in a supported way
Use only the documented procedure.
Steps to follow
- Save your data, BitLocker key and important BIOS settings while the supported legacy processor is still installed.
- Only download the official BIOS of the exact model and revision and read if you need an intermediate version.
- If you use BIOS Flashback function without CPU, follow the file name, USB slot and indicator sequence specified in its manual; not all boards support it.
- After finishing and turning off the power, install the processor according to the manual. If the CPU indicator is still on, have the power connections and installation checked at a service center.
If the problem persists
If the processor is not supported, updating the firmware will not necessarily make it compatible. If the old CPU is no longer available and the board does not have an upgrade without the CPU function, please contact service. Don't try to make contacts without the tools and experience.
