Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Check for blocked vents, load and fan operation. Dust, congealed paste or inadequate cooling may require service.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Load shedding
If the CPU load is high, close known unnecessary programs and compare the heat.
Steps to follow
- Press Ctrl, Shift and Esc together to open the Task Manager.
- If you only see a short list of apps, click More info if available.
- Sort processes by CPU.
- After saving your work, only close known high-load applications.
- Observe for a few minutes to see if the noise and heating have decreased. If not, check ventilation and cooling.
Improvement of ventilation
Use a hard surface and do not cover the air vents.
Steps to follow
- Place the laptop on a hard, flat table, not a bed or sofa.
- Keep things away from its air vents and do not cover the case.
- Allow to cool without heavy load and compare to normal operation. If it shuts off or a burning smell is detected, stop the test.
Cooling maintenance
If it rumbles or heats up under no load, a cooling check is required; do not continue the load when switching off.
Steps to follow
- Make a note of the model and check its manual to see if the fan can stop at rest.
- Without a heavy load, listen and look only from the outside to see if the openings are not covered; do not insert objects into them.
- If the temperature rises and the cooler does not start, turn it off and inform the technician. Do not disassemble to check for dust or paste without preparation.
If the problem persists
Check the load at rest and do not place the computer on a soft surface. If it shuts down or the fan doesn't work, stop load testing and ask for a cooling check.
