Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Windows does not have one universal view of CPU temperature for all computers. Use hardware-specific diagnostics or a reliable sensor reader; The BIOS reading does not show the game load temperature. Monitor quiescent and load conditions and compare to component specific limits. If the device shuts down or overheats, stop the test.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Temperature in the operating system
Manufacturer's diagnostics monitor readings at rest and under load within the component's tolerances.
Steps to follow
- Open your model manufacturer's diagnostic or temperature monitoring program; if you don't have it, download it only from the official support site.
- Leave the computer idle for a few minutes and note the CPU and GPU readings.
- Run the normal program causing the problem, not the extra hard test, and watch the difference.
- Compare with the manufacturer's limits for the specific component. If the temperature rises rapidly, shuts down or the fan does not work, stop the test and give the readings to the technician.
Comparison of BIOS readings
If the system is struggling to boot, the BIOS reading can help you gauge the idle temperature, but not the game load.
Steps to follow
- Save your work and check the model manual which button opens BIOS/UEFI.
- Reboot and use the key specified in the manual during startup.
- If the menu says Hardware Monitor, Health, or Temperature, view the CPU temperature without changing anything.
- Exit without saving changes. This reading is a resting, non-game temperature; if there is no section, do not use this method.
If the problem persists
Compare the readings with the limits of the specific processor and GPU manufacturer. If the temperature rises rapidly, the computer shuts down, or there is a burning smell, stop the load and ask for a cooling check.
