How can I speed up a PC without registry cleaners or RAM boosters?

Troubleshooting guide

How to fix the problem

Do not treat a random utility's promise to fix hundreds of errors with one click as a diagnosis. Identify the actual cause of the slowdown and use the relevant Windows tool. A lower memory usage number does not automatically mean faster work.

Possible solutions

Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.

  1. Remove an unnecessary optimization utility

Do not remove essential security software or organization-managed applications.

    Steps to follow

    1. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and find the cleaner or booster you installed. Check its exact name and publisher.
    2. If you do not need it, uninstall it using the standard Uninstall option. For a work PC or an unfamiliar security tool, consult the administrator first.
    3. If the utility changed system settings, check its documented restore function before uninstalling. Do not run generic registry-fix files found online.
    4. Restart the PC and test your normal work. Do not indiscriminately disable other drivers or system services.
  2. Use a tool that matches the actual cause

    Evaluate each change separately.

    Steps to follow

    1. If the drive is full, open Settings > System > Storage and review personal and temporary files before removing anything.
    2. If one of your applications is busy, save your work, close it and check whether the slowdown stops. Note its name for further investigation.
    3. If you suspect malware, open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection and run a scan instead of installing a cleaner offered by an advertisement.
    4. If RAM is insufficient or Windows runs from an old HDD, assess a compatible hardware upgrade for the exact model.

If the problem persists

If files disappear, applications stop working or errors appear after using a cleaner, stop cleaning. Protect the remaining data and give a technician the tool's name and change history.
