Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
In Windows 11, use the Clipboard tool's video recording mode and select an area of the screen. Win+G opens the Xbox Game Bar, but it doesn't capture all windows, like the regular desktop or File Explorer. In Windows 10, use Game Bar for a supported app or another reliable recording tool. Before recording, check the available space and the selected sound source.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Windows 11 Clipboard Tool
Choose the video recording mode when you need to capture the desktop or an area of the screen.
Steps to follow
- In Windows 11 Start search, find Clipboard tool and open it.
- Select a video recording mode, not a photo, and click New.
- Select the area with the mouse, check the displayed sound options and click Start.
- When you're done, press Stop, save the clip, and play it back for testing. If the recording mode is not available, check the official update of the tool.
Xbox Game Bar
Use Win+G for a supported program or game; it does not capture the desktop and all windows.
Steps to follow
- Open a game or application that Game Bar supports.
- Press Windows and G, find the Capture panel.
- Select the start of recording and, if necessary, the microphone; stop via the displayed widget.
- In the Videos > Captures folder, open the clip. If you need the desktop or File Explorer, use another method.
If the problem persists
If the Game Bar doesn't capture the desktop or File Explorer, use the Windows 11 Clipboard tool. Check free space and microphone permission if you want to record voice.
