Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION indicates that DPC or related work is running too long; the problem is not necessarily the SSD. Check for strange device drivers and Windows events before the crash. If a device or .sys file is mentioned, revert to its previous driver or use a compatible manufacturer's package. Change the firmware only for a specific device, having a copy.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Returning a specific driver
If you changed the device driver before the crash, roll back to the previous compatible version.
Steps to follow
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager. If Windows won't start, first go to safe mode according to the related topic.
- Expand the related device group: Display adapters for video error, Network adapters for network error. Do not modify the device without knowing it.
- Right-click the device, select Properties, then the Manager tab.
- Click "Return Driver". If the button is gray, there is no previous version - skip this method.
- Complete the wizard, save your work and reload. Repeat the action that caused the problem; do not change other drivers at the same time.
Device and log analysis
If the cause is unclear, compare without accessories and submit logs for diagnostics; the code does not indicate an SSD failure.
Steps to follow
- When the error reoccurs, take a screenshot of the entire error text without sending private data to the public.
- Type "Reliability History" in the Start search and open the tool if Windows starts.
- Select the date of the failure, click on the critical event and view its technical details.
- Write down the STOP code, the time, and the program or device in question. If dump analysis is required, submit the file to the master privately, not in comments.
Manufacturer's firmware check
Only after you have identified the affected device and have a copy, should you consider updating it as recommended by its manufacturer.
Steps to follow
- Before any update, make a copy of the files and check if the device is working stably. Do not update the firmware of the disappearing disk.
- According to the exact model, find the firmware manual on the manufacturer's official website and check if it is for your device.
- If the guide suggests an update for your case, make sure it has a stable power supply and follow that wizard only. If you are not sure, stop and give the model to the master.
- The internal connection can only be checked after completely disconnecting the power according to the model manual; do not open the case without preparation.
If the problem persists
Check when the error occurs - with a specific USB device, storage or other hardware. This code alone does not confirm an SSD failure; do not update unstable disk firmware before data copy.
