Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
The USB-C port can support charging, but not video output. The dock still needs the right technology and cable. Therefore, a working charge does not confirm that the same connector is suitable for the monitor.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
PC socket specification
Check what your specific USB-C slot supports.
Steps to follow
- Write down the full computer model and dock model. Don't limit yourself to USB-C.
- Check your computer's manual to see if that slot supports DisplayPort Alt Mode, Thunderbolt, or USB4 video output.
- Check the dock manual for which technology it requires. The Thunderbolt dock will not necessarily work fully in a regular USB-C slot.
- If there is another display-capable slot, after turning off and disconnecting the accessories, move the dock to it and check the display.
Cable and single monitor test
Separate compatibility from cable or display setup.
Steps to follow
- Use the full data and video cable provided by the dock manufacturer, not just the charging cable.
- Leave one display connected and select the correct HDMI or DisplayPort input from the monitor menu.
- Windows Settings > System > Display check if the monitor is detected; For macOS, use System Preferences > Displays.
- If possible, compare the display directly via the computer's HDMI or other supported video connection. Working live view helps you to check the dock.
If the problem persists
If the computer port does not have the necessary video function, a simple passive USB-C adapter will not add it. Another supported video connector or a suitable software video adapter is required, considering its limitations.
