The robot vacuum reports a cliff-sensor error on a flat floor

Troubleshooting guide

How to fix the problem

A drop error can be caused by a dirty cell, a bad surface, or a genuine sensor malfunction. First, check that the robot is completely standing on the base and not hanging on the threshold.

Possible solutions

Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.

  1. Safe surface test

Check in a place without the risk of falling.

    Steps to follow

    1. Stop and turn off the robot, move it to a free level floor away from the stairs.
    2. Check that there is no object caught under one wheel and that the hull is not tilted.
    3. Clean all the drop sensor cells specified in the manual with a dry soft cloth.
    4. Run a short suction job and note if the error reoccurs at the same location.
  2. Separation of environment and equipment

Check the influence of light and coating.

    Steps to follow

    1. Compare a place without a black carpet, strong floor reflections and direct sunlight.
    2. Check the sensor for factory film, water drops or worn surface.
    3. Just do a normal model reboot, not a factory wipe of all data.
    4. If the error remains in various safe locations, provide the service with the code and the results of both tests.

Features, menus and error codes depend on the exact robot and dock model and software version. Instructions for another series may not apply.

If the problem persists

If the error recurs on a safe, bright, flat surface with clean sensors, diagnostics are required. Do not tape the protection or test the robot on the edge of a table or near open stairs.

Request a repair

Before you begin: Before maintenance, stop and switch off the robot and unplug the dock. Do not touch moving parts during operation. If liquid reaches electrical components or the battery is damaged, do not power the device on again until it has been inspected.
