Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
The cliff sensors on some robot vacuums can mistake a dark, light-absorbing carpet for a stair edge. This may be a technology limitation rather than a dirty brush. Never cover or tape over the cliff sensors.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Comparison of carpet and sensors
Confirm that the problem is with the surface.
Steps to follow
- Stop the robot and wipe the cliff sensors on the bottom with a dry cloth.
- Check the same task on a bright, hard surface, safely away from the stairs.
- Compare the approach to the dark carpet and write down the displayed error.
- If it works elsewhere, check the carpet color and pile length restrictions specified by the manufacturer.
Safe management of the problem area
Keep the drop protection.
Steps to follow
- If supported, set a no-go zone on the problematic carpet in the app.
- Remove the carpet temporarily and check that the route is running normally again.
- Do not use tape, foil or sensor disable mods.
- If the error remains even on a light floor, ask for a sensor check - then the cause is not necessarily the carpet.
Features, menus and error codes depend on the exact robot and dock model and software version. Instructions for another series may not apply.
If the problem persists
If the problem is specific to that carpet, choose a restricted area, another carpet, or a model with support suitable for your flooring. Covering the sensors can cancel the protection against falling down the stairs.
Request a repairBefore you begin: Before maintenance, stop and switch off the robot and unplug the dock. Do not touch moving parts during operation. If liquid reaches electrical components or the battery is damaged, do not power the device on again until it has been inspected.
