Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
After a quick format, some data can sometimes still be recovered, but a new recording reduces the chances. SSD TRIM or media internal management can make files unplayable even without subsequent intentional copying.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Stop recording immediately
The steps depend on whether the system disk is formatted.
Steps to follow
- Do not copy anything new to the problem media or install a recovery program on it.
- If it's an additional drive or card, safely remove it. If it is a system drive, turn off the computer and do not use it for further work.
- Make a note of when and with what tool it was formatted, what the previous file system was, and if anything was saved after that.
- Check other copies, cloud recycle bin and version history: they may be a more reliable path to recovery.
Restoring from a copy or specialist
Choose based on data value and media condition.
Steps to follow
- For important data, please consider creating a sector copy of the media first, rather than repairing the original.
- If you're trying it yourself and the data risk is acceptable, run a trusted recovery tool from another drive or system.
- Specify another physical medium as the recovery destination; not the one being scanned.
- Open the recovered files and check the contents. The names found or the view list does not guarantee that the whole file is healthy.
If the problem persists
If the files do not change, disconnect the media and ask for an evaluation before trying many programs. No tool can guarantee recovery after TRIM or overwriting. Always save the recovery results on another physical drive.
