Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Possible driver, RAM and disk errors. Remove recently installed drivers, perform memory and disk diagnostics.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Driver return
If it started after a new driver package, roll back the associated change.
Steps to follow
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager. If Windows won't start, first go to safe mode according to the related topic.
- Expand the related device group: Display adapters for video error, Network adapters for network error. Do not modify the device without knowing it.
- Right-click the device, select Properties, then the Manager tab.
- Click "Return Driver". If the button is gray, there is no previous version - skip this method.
- Complete the wizard, save your work and reload. Repeat the action that caused the problem; do not change other drivers at the same time.
Memory and disk diagnostics
If the error persists without a clear change, check the RAM and disk, making a backup before the storage tests.
Steps to follow
- First, copy important files to another media if the system is stable. If the drive disappears or crashes, stop the self-tests.
- To check RAM, save your work, Windows+R type mdsched.exe and select reboot and check.
- Let the test finish and note if it finds any errors. One short successful test does not rule out all instability.
- For disk information, right-click Start > Device Manager > Disk Devices and write down the model; in its manufacturer's tool, check the health status without applying a wipe or a long test.
- If errors are found or the failure occurs again, report the results to the technician. Do not disassemble the RAM, sockets or power supply yourself.
If the problem persists
Make a note of the .sys file mentioned on the screen and what you changed before the crash. If the drive is suspect, save the data before long tests; the name of the driver on the screen does not always mean its fault.
