Troubleshooting guide
How to fix the problem
Close the program that opened the file, the document viewer, and any associated copy actions. If still locked, save your next job and restart your computer. A network or sync file may be in use by another device. Don't delete system files or use obscure "unlock" programs as a first resort.
Possible solutions
Choose the method that matches your situation. Start with the simplest suitable option and check the result. If the problem is fixed, you do not need to continue with the other methods.
Closing the program and review
Close the application that opened the file, the viewing, and the copying operations.
Steps to follow
- Check if the file is open in an editor, preview window, or copied.
- Save your changes and close that program and file viewer.
- Try the desired action again. The network file may be in use by someone else - match with them, don't try to force delete.
Normal reboot
If the lock remains, save another job and reload; the network file may be held by another device.
Steps to follow
- Save changes to all open documents.
- In the Start menu, select the power button and the normal "Shut down"; file lock can be "Restarted".
- If an update is in progress, do not interrupt it. Wait for the system to complete the operation.
- Disconnect the USB drive only when the computer is turned off; after reboot check if the file is no longer locked. Don't use Force Shutdown as the first step.
If the problem persists
Check which program opened the file and close it normally. If it's a network or cloud file, it can be used by another device; do not use force delete for important system files.
